Successful candidates will be supported in applying for Chilean government funding. Positions are open to individuals who have earned a PhD between January 1, 2023, and June 30, 2026.
Applicants should have research experience in one or more of the following areas:
Gravitation and Cosmology & Particle Physics: early Universe cosmology, quantum cosmology, primordial non-gaussianity, models of dark energy and dark matter, quantum gravity phenomenology, black holes, wormholes, modified gravity theories, Lorentz symmetry-breaking, perturbative and non-perturbative QCD, Higgs physics, Feynman diagrams, QCD in extreme conditions, among others.
The government-funded Fondecyt Postdoctoral 2027 fellowship offers a 2-3 year position beginning in the first semester of 2027, with a net salary of approximately 23,000 USD/year (after a 16% deduction). Universidad del Bío-Bío has campuses in two cities in central Chile: Concepción, the capital of the Biobío Region, and Chillán, the capital of the neighboring Ñuble Region. Concepción is the second largest metropolitan area in Chile, with a population of approximately 1,000,000 inhabitants in its greater urban area. It is a major urban and university city, located on the banks of the Biobío River, just 12 km from the Pacific coast. Chillán, with a population of approximately 200,000 inhabitants, is nestled between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean, and is renowned as a skiing destination and for its volcanic hot springs. Both cities enjoy excellent connectivity: Santiago, the national capital, lies approximately 500 km north of Concepción and 400 km north of Chillán, and serves as the main gateway for international flights. Concepción’s airport offers frequent domestic flights and some international connections, and is located approximately 87 km southwest of Chillán. The climate across the region is Mediterranean, with cool, wet but mild winters and warm, dry summers.
Application Process: Interested candidates should submit a CV and a research statement (max. 1 page) to acidm@ubiobio.cl by July 8, 2026. Please also indicate the name of your preferred sponsoring researcher within the group, and include the name and contact information of a researcher able to provide a recommendation letter. The deadline to apply for government funding is yet to be announced, but is expected to fall around August 2026.
